Recent Research by the Community Service Volunteers (CSV) reported that:
  • Volunteering improves physical health and fitness
  • Volunteering helps individuals to loose weight
  • Volunteers noticed a reduction in their chocolate consumption
  • Volunteering meant they drank less alcohol
  • Volunteering helped them to smoke less


  • The student magazine Get*A*Hed 2005 stated that:
  • 62% of employers use work experience to find permanent staff
  • 73% of employers would employ candidates with volunteering experience over one who has none.
  • 94% of employers believe that volunteering can add skills.
  • 58% of employers say volunteering work experience can actually be more valuable than experience in paid employment.


  • Volunteering can improve your love life! A Community Service Volunteers (CSV) survey last year found that:
  • One in five 18 to 24-year-olds said volunteering had improved their sex lives, especially those who offered their professional skills, or got involved in conservation or heritage work.


  • The Millennium Volunteers scheme has found that:
  • 80% of student volunteers continue volunteering after they leave college , - once they try it they tend to get the bug.


  • The Home Office Citizenship Survey (2003) found that:
  • Volunteers contributed 1.9bn hours in 2003 (the equivalent of about a million full-time workers) .
  • Volunteering is worth £22.6bn a year to the UK economy.
  • 72% of voluntary and community organisations employ no paid staff.
