Overseas Challenge 2008 Five intrepid Volunteering MMU volunteers headed out to Andra Pradesh, India, to volunteer on two projects in late July 08. They spent a month working on two projects; Brighter Future HIV Hospice in Vizanagaram and HEAL residential school for children from deprived areas in Guntur. The volunteers made the national news with a feature article in The Hindu Times and have been very well received by both projects. Becky, who went to Vizianagram said: "..6 year old Laxmi ( a girl that particularly stole my heart) who never spoke is now saying letters and some names! I hope to return to Prem Nivas again, this time for longer than a month- I am missing the children already! I'd like to say a huge giant THANK YOU to everyone who offered support both financial and emotional when I was preparing for the project." |
